STREAMLINED PACKING

 

This is my packing list for a trip I took in July 2008. The trip incorporated a train ride, a bike ride, a flight, a road trip, and then another train ride. I packed everything I needed for 9 days into a Freitag bike messenger bag.

CLOTHES (PACKED):

  • 1 pair shorts
  • 1 long-sleeved tee shirt (underlayer for night-biking & coldest winter/SF summer)
  • 4 shirts (3 tees, 1 short-sleeved button-down)
  • 1 green zip-front short-sleeved jacket-thing (shoulda left it at home)
  • 1 swimsuit
  • 5 pair socks
  • 5 pair underwear
  • 1 raw silk scarf -- lightweight, warm, pretty

 

CLOTHES (WORN):

  • 1 pair socks
  • 1 pair underwear
  • 1 pair jeans
  • 1 tee shirt
  • 1 fitted (to keep in warmth) denim jacket
  • 1 pair shoes
  • 1 newsboy cap -- warm, brim to keep out sun or rain, adorable

BIKE GEAR:

  • Multitool (allen keys and screwdrivers)
  • Wrenches (3)
  • Patch kit
  • Extra inner tube
  • U-lock

TECHNOLOGY:

  • 1 12" PowerBook G4 in a padded case & powercord
  • 1 iPhone & powercord

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • Toiletries -- toothbrush, toothpaste, something to make me smell nice, comb, hair bands, make-up
  • Notebook and pencil
  • Wallet
  • Keys
  • Garage door clicker -- yes, bikers use them, too

  • The phone number of a friend with a washing machine in each city
